This is a workshop of learning about setting gemstones. It has been compressed into two full and spectacular days (for those who are here for a short time and want to learn quickly) and at a wonderfully affordable 50% price. (In Australia this course is upwards of $700 AUD)
You will learn what a "cabochon" stone is and you will learn how to set one with a "bezel setting" in a simple pendant or ring. This workshop has been thinned to accommodate simple design ideas and more space to watch and learn with an excursion on the first day workshop to Celuk.
The earliest known technique of attaching stones to jewellery was "Bezel Setting". A bezel is a strip of metal bent into the shape and size of the stone and then soldered to the piece of jewellery. Then the stone is inserted into the bezel and the metal rubbed or “pushed” over the stone, holding it in place. This method works well for either cabochon or faceted stones and this is what we will concentrate on in this workshop for it's more simplistic approach.
We want you to be able to create something quickly and walk away feeling like you were able to accomplish it with little stress and plenty of time to learn.
What is included on the day:
1 - 16 grammes of silver instead of 8
2 - A gemstone from our collection to the value of $15 USD (upgrade if you like)
3 - Our special excursion to see how silver is smelted and made into wire and sheet in the area known as Celuk. This is on the first morning.
If you have done previous workshops with us for basics, you can bring your own stone to this workshop and set it, or tell us what kind of stone you are looking for so we can find the perfect one for you.
(additional silver can be purchased from us for $1.10 USD per gram on the day)
